Formed in 1959 as [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/3382145-Linda-The-Del-Rios]The Del-Rios[/url] as backing vocal group for [a=Linda Steele (2)]. After disbanding they renamed [a=Chubby And The Turnpikes]. Four Cape Verdean - American brothers, born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, they would later move to New Bedford, Massachusetts. They were signed to [l=Capitol Records] in 1967 and released three singles. In the 1970s, they renamed the group Tavares and had a No.1 R'n'B hit with their cover of [a=Daryl Hall & John Oates]' [url=http://www.discogs.com/Tavares-Shes-Gone/release/4164892]"She's Gone"[/url] in 1974. Their biggest hits are 1975's [url=http://www.discogs.com/Tavares-It-Only-Takes-A-Minute/release/888864]"It Only Takes A Minute" [/url], covered in 1992 by [a=Take That] and [url=http://www.discogs.com/Tavares-Heaven-Must-Be-Missing-An-Angel/release/2673323]"Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel"[/url]. After ten albums for [l=Capitol Records] (produced by [a=Johnny Bristol], the duo [a=Brian Potter] and [a=Dennis Lambert], [a=Freddie Perren], [a=Bobby Martin], [a=Benjamin Wright] and [a=Bobby Colomby], [a=Alan Abrahams (2)]), they signed to [l=RCA Victor] in 1980 for two albums (produced by [a=Jay Senter], [a=Kenny Nolan], [a=Richard Wyatt Jr.], [a=Leon Sylvers], [a=Wardell Potts] and [a=Dana Meyers]). [a=Ralph Tavares] left the group in 1984 and [a=Tiny Tavares] left in the mid '90s but reunited with the group in 2009 for live concerts.
